Levels of Hearing Loss

The levels of hearing loss range from mild to profound

Mild Loss - With a mild hearing impairment there will be some difficulty in hearing soft speech and conversation in noisier or reverberant environments.  However in in quiet situations speech can be understood.

Moderate Loss - With a moderate hearing impairment there are some difficulties understanding speech  especially in the presence of background noise. Higher levels of volume are needed for hearing speech in all situations

Severe Loss - With a severe hearing loss regular speech is inaudible and there are difficulties even with loud speech.

Profound Loss - With a profound hearing loss even amplified speech is difficult to understand or inaudible.
